Frederick Schwarzkopf

1881 - 1961

Austrian architect Frederich Schwarzkopf came to New Zealand with his wife in 1940 as refugees from the Nazi regime. Once in New Zealand Frederich was employed as a structural engineer by the Housing department, which limited his ability to take on private commissions. His two known private projects were the family home in Margaret Street, Wadestown and a house for Richard and Barbara Collins (later owned by composer Douglas Lilburn).
