Hennessy & Hennessy
unknown
Hennessy & Hennessy was an Australian architecture practice with offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. It had an influence internationally and consulted on projects across Australia, and in the UK, South Africa and New Zealand.
The practice was established in Sydney by John Francis Hennessy (1853 – 1924) and Joseph Ignatius Sheerin (1846 – 1915) in 1884. The partnership continued until Sheerin retired in 1912, and John Hennessey’s son John Francis (Jack) Hennessy (1887-1956) joined the practice as a partner. When Hennessy (senior) retired in 1923, his son transformed the practice and opened offices in Brisbane from c.1925, and Melbourne from 1931. The Prudential Building in Wellington was a collaboration between Hennessy & Hennessy and local practice Gray Young, Morton and Young, and is one of a number of international projects by the practice.
